Financial Report
July report reviewed and approved. Mike Follett explained that we still expect to be on track for the end-of-year finances.
Old Business
- Members previously voted to approve spending up to $30,000 to purchase web and mobile site software. After extensive review of various options, UnionActive was chosen to provide us with a website that addresses our need to enhance member communications. The initial package cost was $1,659 with a monthly maintenance cost of $64.95/mo. Expect to have the new website live at our current website address, www.ibewlocal2150.com, in the next week or two. The site will be a work in progress, but members are encouraged to sign in to the members’ only section when it’s up and running to get information and sign up for text message alerts and/or email alerts.
New Business
- Request from the IBEW Sixth District Office to make a contribution of $15,000 from general funds to the Greater Wisconsin Political Action Committee. Discussion on recent member feedback, ad hock political committee feedback, the standing monthly bills list, enhanced efforts to get member input/approval on important issues and need for enough notice of the vote. Request will be taken to a vote of the general membership starting with monthly meetings scheduled after August 21, 2016.
Business Manager's Report – M. Follett
- Most areas have good safety records, however, we must all strive to continue to get better year after year.
- Have met with ATC and their Vegetation Management (Line Clearance) employers regarding establishing a new safety liaison position that would focus on Veg. Management activities. Meetings went well and we are hopeful to have a position in place to complement efforts of Fred Naud, our current safety liaison.
- The new website will provide much better communications to members who sign up to receive the communications. Member Engagement Committee will continue to look for ways to improve members’ involvement in your union. When the site is up and running in the next couple of weeks, please sign-in and encourage your co-workers to sign in.
- Wisconsin IBEW State Conference endorsed Russ Feingold for US Senate. His record stands on its own relative to most union-related issues, but Local 2150 and the other Wisconsin utility locals were to meet with the Feingold campaign to assure that we have significant input to future federal energy legislative efforts. Local 965, Local 2150 and IBEW 6th District Representative Shawn Reents met with Feingold campaign manager and others. Russ Feingold is committed to giving us a “seat at the table” for future energy considerations. He believes in multiple Wisconsin specific considerations such as energy mix, economics, family-supporting union jobs, and the environment.
President’s Report – B. Stone
- Preparations for the solidarity picnic and Labor Day celebrations continue. Participation is encouraged by all members and their families.
Vice President/Safety Liaison – J. Zauner
- Concerned about We Energies’ lack of urgency for replacing retiring trainer, there is an immediate need to get a plan in place for upcoming Line Apprentice training.
- Field training opportunities for We Energies’ Line Apprentices is getting better. Examples of members’ engagement in training the apprentices include a large managed outage that provided valuable opportunities and leaders moving apprentices from area to area to provided needed exposure to other situations.
Good of the Union
- Local 2150 essay contest: There were 5 entries this year. Congratulations to Michael Dudek who is a student at Mukwonago High School and son of member Tom Dudek. The check will be presented at the Unit 5 meeting August 16 in Delafield.
