Attention Members!!! A message from YOUR Local 2150 Safety Committee:
The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as Don’t Fry Day. This is an awareness campaign to get the word out about the dangers of tanning and sunburns. Some interesting facts:
· One in 5 children will grow up to get skin cancer.
· It is estimated that one American dies every hour from skin cancer.
· Melanoma is the second most common form of cancer for young adults 15-29 years old.
· Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.
The campaign addresses a number of target audiences, including outdoor workers. The resources for the campaign are excellent. Check out the web site here: https://www.skincancerprevention.org/resour…/outdoor-workers.
Other audiences for the campaign are health professionals, parents, parks and recreation staff, teachers and schools, and teenagers.
